5 Steps to Happy Holidays

The holiday season is often a whirlwind of events, shopping, and to-do lists, leaving us feeling more overwhelmed than joyful. But it doesn’t have to be that way. This year, let’s simplify holiday planning and focus on what truly matters: rest, connection, and joy.

Here are 5 simple steps to help you create a holiday season

that nourishes your mind, body, and soul

1. Create Rituals That Nourish You

Rituals give structure to our days and anchor us in calm. Whether it’s a morning moment of gratitude, lighting a candle at dinner, or winding down with a favorite book, rituals remind us to slow down and savor the season.

Ask yourself: What small daily rituals can I add to make the holidays more meaningful?

2. Slow Down

Slowing down might feel counterintuitive during the holidays, but it’s the key to finding true joy. Use these “press pause” methods:

  • Take 5-minute breaks between tasks or at transitional times of day to breathe, stretch, or step outside.

  • Build quiet mornings or evenings into your routine to reset and recharge.

  • Say no to events or obligations that don’t align with your priorities.

  • Invite friends over for apps and drinks and to play holiday-themed games

  • Invite friends over to watch your favorite Christmas movie or new Hallmark Channel release. Pajamas-only attire!

Slowing down allows you to experience the holidays with intention rather than rushing through them.

3. Take Social Media Breaks

Social media often amplifies stress by creating unrealistic comparisons. Give yourself permission to take a detox—even for a day or two. Instead of scrolling, spend that time connecting with loved ones, journaling, or simply enjoying a quiet moment.

4. Focus on Gratitude

Gratitude is one of the simplest ways to shift your mindset during the holidays. Start a gratitude journal, reflect on three things you’re thankful for each day, or express your gratitude to others. Gratitude helps us see the good that already exists and creates a sense of abundance.

5. Do Things That Bring You Comfort and Joy

The holidays aren’t about doing it all—they’re about doing what lights you up. Whether it’s a cozy night watching a holiday movie, baking cookies with your kids, or taking a quiet walk to enjoy the lights around your neighborhood, find the little things that bring you happiness and prioritize them.

Simplify, Savor, and Celebrate

Simplifying holiday planning isn’t about cutting corners; it’s about choosing what truly matters. By focusing on these five steps, you can create a season that feels less overwhelming and more joyful.

This year, let’s trade the hustle for intention and savor the magic of the holidays.
