La Rentrée: The Art of Returning with Intention

I was scrolling Instagram the other day, and in my feed came this post that made me…pause. Like, really pause. The post was by New York Time bestselling author Anna Kloots. She’s an American living in Paris and she mentioned that this is her favorite week of the year in Paris because it’s La Rentrée – a time of “re-entry.” Posts and language like this set my curiosity into overdrive. The more I looked into La Rentrée, the more I realized that it’s precisely this type of cultural intentionality that (make me want to live in Paris) fuel my passion for disrupting the hustle culture.

The Art of Slow Living

Ah, La Rentrée! The blissful period in France when summer laziness gives way to a renewed sense of energy and purpose. As the vibrant hues of autumn start to paint the landscape, the French embrace this transition with a unique blend of enthusiasm and tranquility. It's a time to press pause, reflect on the hustle of daily life, and savor the simple joys that each day brings.

In a world that glorifies hustle culture and constantly being on the go, the French approach to La Rentrée offers a refreshing perspective. It's a celebration of slow living, a concept that encourages us to take a step back, appreciate the present moment, and find beauty in life's small details. Instead of rushing from one task to another, the French urge us to savor each experience, whether it's enjoying a leisurely meal with loved ones or taking a peaceful stroll through nature.

A Time for Reflection and Renewal

La Rentrée is not just about going back to school or work; it's a holistic return to routines infused with new intentions and aspirations. It's a time for self-reflection, setting goals, and embracing new opportunities. As the air becomes crisper and the days shorter, the French use this period to realign their priorities, let go of what no longer serves them, and embrace positive change.

Nurturing Connections and Community

One of the most beautiful aspects of La Rentrée is its emphasis on relationships and community. Whether gathering for a cozy dinner with friends or joining cultural events in the neighborhood, the French understand the importance of nurturing connections. In a world where digital distractions often take center stage, La Rentrée serves as a reminder to invest time and energy into meaningful interactions that nourish the soul.

Finding Balance in the Everyday

As we immerse ourselves in the spirit of La Rentrée, we are reminded of the importance of balance in our lives. The French delight in finding harmony between work and leisure, responsibilities and passions. By carving out moments of stillness amidst the chaos of modern life, they are able to recharge their spirits and approach each day with a sense of purpose and contentment.

Embracing Change with Grace

Change is inevitable, but how we choose to embrace it defines our journey. La Rentrée embodies the French art of gracefully transitioning from one season to another, both literally and metaphorically. Just as the leaves transform from green to gold, we too can embrace change with grace and openness, trusting in the beauty of new beginnings and the wisdom that comes with each transition.

A Season of Renewal

La Rentrée is not just a time of year; it's a state of mind—a mindset that encourages us to slow down, appreciate the present moment, and embrace the beauty of change. As we navigate our own seasons of life, let us take inspiration from the French and approach each new beginning with a sense of wonder, gratitude, and the intention to live fully in each moment.

So, as the world around us transforms with the arrival of autumn, let us also transform within, savoring the beauty of La Rentrée and the art of slow living it embodies.

Let's press pause, breathe in the crisp autumn air, and welcome this season of renewal with open hearts and open minds.

Incorporating the essence of La Rentrée in our lives can truly sprinkle magic in our everyday routines. Let's channel our inner French spirit, slow down, and find joy in the simplicity of each moment. Embracing the philosophy of slow living during this season of new beginnings can lead us to a more enriched and fulfilling life.

That’s the beauty of La Rentrée—and the heart, and the art, of slow living. Want more tips on disrupting the hustle culture and bringing more intentionality into your life? Grab a copy of the bestselling book, What Are We Doing?! Radical Self-Care for the Hustle Culture.
